Nigerian pop star Wizkid is having a swell year and it’s only the fifth
month in what is already considered a successful run of form for the
Nigerian entertainment industry.
It all started in 2015 after Skepta brought Drake’s attention to the
Nigerian pop star by playing him the song Ojuelegba. This impressed the
American rapper who later made a remix to the song in July 2015.
By April 2016, the relationship had blossomed into a collaboration on
the song One Dance off Drake’s new album Views.

In the past, Drake’s singles Best I Ever Had (2009) and Hotline Bling
(2015) only went as far as the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100
chart and he only previously hit the number one spot with collaborations
with Rihanna on What’s My Name (2010) and Work (April 2016).
However, Drake has finally got the number one spot with his smash hit
One Dance which features Wizkid.
On Monday, May 9, Billboard reported this saying:
“Dance, released on Young Money/Cash Money/Republic Records, becomes
Drake’s first Hot 100 No. 1 in a lead role, following two toppers as a
featured artist, both on tracks with Rihanna as the lead: What’s My
Name? (one week, 2010) and Work, which spent its last of nine weeks at
No. 1 three weeks ago (on the April 30-dated chart). As a lead, Drake
had previously peaked as high as No. 2 twice: with his debut hit Best I
Ever Had in 2009 and Hotline Bling last year.
“Dance dethrones Desiigner’s Panda (1-2) on the Hot 100 after two weeks
at No. 1.”
This is impressive. With One Dance, Wizkid is pretty much achieving his
greatest feat yet in music as far as international recognition and music
chart history is concerned.

As we celebrate this Wizkid achievement, there are hints from sources in
the know who say this is only the first of several songs to drop
between him and Drake.
Insiders say there are several collaborations which have Wizkid and
Chris Brown on a song as well as others with Drake and Jidenna.
Wizkid, formerly with EME records under Banky W, has managed to fly high
in spite of being ruffled by a number of controversial issues such as
baby mama dramas and allegations of song theft, among other things.
The 25-year-old multi award-winning pop star and brand ambassador
currently runs StarBoy Entertainment and has previously released two
studio albums – Superstar and AYO.

. One Dance is the 12th track on the new album Views, the fourth studio
album from Drake which was released by Cash Money Records, Young Money
Entertainment and OVO Sound on Thursday, April 28, 2016.

With this, Wizkid is sure gaining foothold in the global music scene and
it presents many more opportunities for other pop artistes in Nigeria.
On April 29, Drake performed at two shows in Toronto and during one of
the performances with Justin Bieber the Energy rapper announced that the
new album sold 630,000 copies in one night.
On the heels of its unique instrumentation, blend of sounds and
commercial success, One Dance climbed steadily up the Billboard Hot 100
chart week in week out.
As at Wednesday, May 4 we reported that the track was sitting on the
number two spot behind Panda by Desiigner.
As it stands today, May 10, Wizkid and Drake have the number one song on
