The US State Department has officially declared the son of Osama bin Laden, Hamza bin Laden a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist ” on Thursday, January 5, 2017, after he openly vowed to avenge the killing of his father by committing acts of terrorism against the security of U.S. nationals and its allies.

According to International media reports, the designation means that US has blocked all property subject to its jurisdiction in which Hamza might have interests in and U.S. citizens are generally prohibited from dealing with him.

Born in 1991, Hamza bin Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden professed allegiance to Al-Qaeda and became an official member of the group coined by his late father Osama – who died at the hands of US forces on May 2, 2011.

Reports also showed that after Osama’s death, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian deputy leader of Al-Qaeda who was allegedly involved in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya, assumed leadership of the group.

The State Department is offering up to $25 million for information leading to al-Zawahiri’s capture.

In one of his messages in 2016, the young bin Laden threatened revenge against the U.S. for killing his father and called for attacks against U.S, French and Israeli interests in Washington, D.C, Paris, France, and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Recall that Osama bin Laden was the mastermind behind the 9/11 (September 11, 2001) bombings at the World Trade Centre in New York, which killed 2,996 people.

He was eliminated by American special forces who raided his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
