A young lady has been arrested for planning her own kidnap.
The young lady who gave her name as Grace Igwe, was arrested after her plans to extort money from her parents following a kidnap attempt, failed.
The 22-year-old Igwe reportedly involved her boyfriend Sunday Bright in her plans and when their plans failed, the Edo state-born boy was arrested alongside his lover.
The commissioner of police, Mr Leye Oyebade, had this to say:
“Search for the whereabouts of the missing Grace Igwe by the police and the family of the victim yielded positive result when an unknown caller demanded N100,000 ransom, which was paid in parts into the bank account of the suspect. This link was followed by the police in their investigation until the suspect was arrested on September 9 at Akpakpava area in Benin City, Edo State and the suspect led the police on the rescue of the victim.
Narrating how they planned the kidnap, Bright said Igwe ha come to him asking for N200,000 and when he couldn't meet up, she demanded to have whatever he could give her. According to him, her actions had him suspecting she had an encounter with fraudsters. He also asked her if her parents were aware that she needed such an amount and when she said no, he started contacting them on her behalf, in order to raise money for the fraudsters (Igwe told him that they seized her phone and belongings pending when she returned with the ransom).
Bright confirmed that Igwe stayed with him for the three weeks she had been declared missing, but maintained that she wasn't kidnapped, and they were trying to raise the money before their arrest.
